Dressing as an Art Form

For me, fashion has always been more than clothing—it is the art of expressing who we are. Every garment I create tells a story. It carries within it the elegance of tradition, the spark of individuality, and the pursuit of timeless beauty. Dressing, in my eyes, is not simply about covering the body—it is about revealing the soul.

Venezuela: My First Source of Inspiration

Many of my collections over the years have been deeply inspired by my beloved Venezuela. Its breathtaking landscapes, its flora and fauna, and the vibrant beauty of its people remain etched in my heart. Even though I now live in Miami, I still miss those roots every day, and I often revisit them in my designs as a tribute to my homeland.

Miami: My Muse Today

Here in Miami, I continue to discover endless sources of inspiration. This city is a kaleidoscope of color, art, and energy that constantly fuels my creativity. Among the many places that inspire me, two are especially close to my heart: the sunsets of Brickell, which for me are a daily reminder of beauty and renewal, and Miami Beach, where I find peace and reflection.

Every year, before the year ends, I have a personal ritual on Miami Beach—a moment of gratitude, renewal, and intention. It is a tradition that connects my life, my spirituality, and my creative vision. Miami is not only where I work, it is where my heart finds balance and inspiration.

The Women Who Inspire Me

Of course, my greatest muses are the women I design for. For decades, I have dressed Miami’s sophisticated women, from society’s elite to show business celebrities and influential community leaders. Many of these women have become cherished friends over the years, allowing me to know them deeply—their tastes, their personalities, and their unique sense of style.

Designing for them is not only about creating beautiful garments, but also about celebrating who they are as individuals. Their elegance, confidence, and authenticity constantly inspire me to push my creativity further. To design for these women—and to walk alongside them as both designer and friend—has been one of the greatest honors of my career.

And yet, my biggest accomplishment is that after so many years, and despite the arrival of new designers—good and new—I am still their designer today. That continuity, that trust, is the most meaningful recognition I could ever receive.

My Creative Process

My process begins long before fabric touches the needle. I start with research and sketches, diving into textures, tones, and shapes that best translate my vision. Choosing fabrics is a sacred moment for me—each texture carries its own energy, each color tells its own story.

But for me, the true magic begins when I dedicate myself to hand embroidery. This is where the fun begins—where I submerge myself in the perfection of details, experimenting with different techniques and materials to create my own signature charm. Embroidery is not just decoration; it is like an art project, one that allows me to elevate each design into something extraordinary.

I can spend hours navigating within a single dress or piece, making sure that every detail is meaningful and unforgettable. For me, embroidery is both passion and play—it is where craftsmanship meets imagination, and where garments are transformed into living works of art.

I also believe in responsibility as a designer. That is why I have been one of the pioneers of upcycling in Miami, transforming existing fabrics into new creations. It is my way of honoring both artistry and sustainability.

Looking Ahead: 50 Years in Fashion

Next year, I will be celebrating 50 years in the fashion world. What began as a hobby when I was just 12 years old has become my lifelong passion and profession. Reaching this milestone is not only an anniversary—it is a celebration of resilience, creativity, and love for the art of dressing.

Talking about inspiration, my upcoming 50th anniversary has also moved me to create a special ready-to-wear collection that will be launched next year. It is inspired by my long journey doing what I love most—FASHION. For now, I will keep the details to myself, because I don’t want to spoil the magic of surprise. All I can say is that it will be a very personal collection, filled with meaning, emotion, and the spirit of this milestone.

My Legacy in Fashion

As I prepare for this milestone, I continue to see fashion as a living art. But beyond my collections, I believe my true legacy lies in the lives I have touched.

Every important dress in the lives of so many women in this city has been made by me. People will remember me not only as a designer but as someone who was always there for his clients—with humility, with sincerity, and with devotion. I have always answered questions directly, without barriers, without PR, because I believe in human connection.

Journalists know me as the designer who always gave interviews personally, without intermediaries. My clients know me as a friend who is always there to offer an expert opinion on their style. And Miami will remember me as the designer who brought unique, timeless fashion to this city.

Para mí, la moda siempre ha sido más que ropa: es el arte de expresar quiénes somos. Cada prenda que creo cuenta una historia. Vestir, en mis ojos, no se trata simplemente de cubrir el cuerpo, sino de revelar el alma.

Venezuela: Mi Primera Fuente de Inspiración

Muchas de mis colecciones a lo largo de los años han estado profundamente inspiradas en mi amada Venezuela. Sus paisajes impresionantes, su flora y fauna, y la vibrante belleza de su gente permanecen grabados en mi corazón. Aunque ahora vivo en Miami, extraño esas raíces cada día, y a menudo las revisito en mis diseños como un tributo a mi tierra natal.

Las Mujeres que me Inspiran

Por supuesto, mis mayores musas son las mujeres para quienes diseño. Durante décadas he vestido a las mujeres más sofisticadas de Miami, desde la élite de la sociedad hasta celebridades del espectáculo y líderes influyentes de la comunidad. Muchas de estas mujeres se han convertido en queridas amigas a lo largo de los años, permitiéndome conocerlas profundamente: sus gustos, sus personalidades y su estilo único.

Diseñar para ellas no se trata solo de crear prendas hermosas, sino de celebrar quiénes son como individuos. Su elegancia, confianza y autenticidad me inspiran constantemente a llevar mi creatividad más allá. Diseñar para estas mujeres—y caminar junto a ellas como diseñador y amigo—ha sido uno de los mayores honores de mi carrera.

Y sin embargo, mi mayor logro es que después de tantos años, y a pesar de la llegada de muchos diseñadores—buenos y nuevos—yo sigo siendo su diseñador hoy en día. Esa continuidad, esa confianza, es el reconocimiento más significativo que podría recibir.

Mi proceso comienza mucho antes de que la tela toque la aguja. Empiezo con investigación y bocetos, explorando texturas, tonos y formas que mejor traduzcan mi visión. Elegir las telas es un momento sagrado para mí: cada textura tiene su propia energía, cada color cuenta su propia historia.

Pero para mí, la verdadera magia comienza cuando me dedico al bordado a mano. Aquí es donde empieza la diversión—donde me sumerjo en la perfección de los detalles, experimentando con diferentes técnicas y materiales para crear mi propio sello distintivo. El bordado no es solo decoración; es como un proyecto artístico que me permite elevar cada diseño a algo extraordinario.

Puedo pasar horas navegando dentro de un solo vestido o pieza, asegurándome de que cada detalle sea significativo e inolvidable. Para mí, el bordado es tanto pasión como juego: es donde la artesanía se encuentra con la imaginación, y donde las prendas se transforman en verdaderas obras de arte vivientes.

También creo en la responsabilidad como diseñador. Por eso he sido uno de los pioneros en el upcycling en Miami, transformando telas existentes en nuevas creaciones. Es mi manera de honrar tanto el arte como la sostenibilidad.

Mirando al Futuro: 50 Años en la Moda

El próximo año celebraré 50 años en el mundo de la moda. Lo que comenzó como un pasatiempo cuando tenía apenas 12 años se ha convertido en mi pasión y profesión de toda la vida. Alcanzar este hito no es solo un aniversario: es una celebración de resiliencia, creatividad y amor por el arte de vestir.

Hablando de inspiración, mi próximo 50 aniversario también me ha motivado a crear una colección especial de ready-to-wear que será lanzada el próximo año. Está inspirada en mi largo recorrido haciendo lo que más amo: ¡LA MODA! Por ahora guardaré los detalles, porque no quiero arruinar la magia de la sorpresa. Lo único que puedo decir es que será una colección muy personal, llena de significado, emoción y el espíritu de este gran hito.

Mi Legado en la Moda

Mientras me preparo para este aniversario, sigo viendo la moda como un arte vivo. Pero más allá de mis colecciones, creo que mi verdadero legado reside en las vidas que he tocado.

Cada vestido importante en la vida de tantas mujeres de esta ciudad ha sido diseñado por este servidor. La gente me recordará no solo como diseñador, sino como alguien que siempre estuvo allí para sus clientas: con humildad, sinceridad y devoción. Siempre he respondido a las preguntas directamente, sin barreras, sin relaciones públicas, porque creo en la conexión humana.

Los periodistas me conocen como el diseñador que siempre dio entrevistas personalmente, sin intermediarios. Mis clientas me conocen como el amigo que siempre estuvo allí para ofrecer una opinión experta sobre su estilo. Y Miami me recordará como el diseñador que trajo una moda única y atemporal a esta ciudad.
