There are rare occasions when décor transcends ornamentation and becomes pure storytelling. For my birthday this year, Francis Yechitch—the creative force behind Alegria Party Design—transformed my lake-view poolside into a living ode to the Amalfi Coast.
Golden lemons glistened beneath a lush canopy of greenery, interwoven with glass lanterns that flickered as twilight fell. The table bloomed with artistry: blue-and-white ceramic vases filled with yellow roses, daisies, and chrysanthemums, deep green plates set on woven chargers, striped napkins tied around lemons, and crystal goblets reflecting the pool’s shimmer. Creative partner Samy Gicherman brought couture precision, balancing textures, vertical drama, and color rhythm. This was not simply a table; it was a Mediterranean dream translated into design.
For me, it was a magical surprise. In that moment, I felt transported to Italy — a country I have loved so much, the scenery of many travels and wedding anniversaries with my husband. That’s why Francis chose this décor: to recreate the places that live in my heart. The twinkling lanterns evoked the charm of Tuscany, the lemons carried me straight to the Amalfi Coast, the rustic touches whispered of the countryside in Abruzzo, and the vintage details stirred the timeless feeling that only Rome has ever given me. The décor also evoked the romantic journeys my husband and I have cherished together — from strolling hand in hand in Portofino to celebrating anniversaries by the serene waters of Lake Como.

I was still speechless when I sat down to ask him about this breathtaking Amalfi-inspired creation. With a heart full of gratitude, I wanted to know more about how he transformed my poolside into a dream of Italy.
Creative Vision & Inspiration
MFS (Lissette): Francis, thank you again for this magical birthday surprise. I’m still overwhelmed by the beauty and detail you brought to life. Tell me — what was your main inspiration for creating this Amalfi Coast–inspired table setting?
Francis: The Amalfi Coast embodies the art of living beautifully, where sunshine, sea, and culture merge into effortless elegance. Our vision was to translate that Mediterranean joie de vivre into a table setting. Yellow, the color of joy and abundance, became the heartbeat, layered with deep greens and Mediterranean blues to channel that coastal glamour. It’s more than a table; it’s an invitation to step into a cinematic summer evening on the Italian coast.
MFS (Lissette): I noticed every element felt connected, like part of a story. How did you manage to blend Mediterranean details like lemons, blue ceramics, and greenery into such harmony?
Francis: We approached it like couture: each layer carefully considered until the whole felt alive. The lemons added vibrancy, the blue ceramics spoke of heritage and artistry, and the greenery softened and wove everything together. The effect was not eclectic but harmonious, as though each element was always meant to belong together.
MFS (Lissette): You know my love for Italy. Was there a memory, a trip, or even a specific evening there that inspired this table?
Francis: Yes, absolutely. We had just returned from Italy, the cradle of art and design. Walking through markets in Capri, dining al fresco in Positano, and watching lanterns glow at dusk, those moments became the DNA of this design. We never do exact recreations; we use our experiences as inspiration for our own art — a distillation of memories into atmosphere, color, and detail.
Design Process & Details
MFS (Lissette): When I sat down, I couldn’t stop admiring the green plates, the blue vases, and the bright florals. How did you decide on this striking combination?
Francis: It was about creating dialogue through color. The green plates anchor the landscape, the blue-printed vases bring Mediterranean tradition, and the florals, from roses to daisies, radiate the sunlit Amalfi energy. Placed together, they evoke the coastline’s harmony of sea, land, and sky.
MFS (Lissette): The lighting stole my heart. As the lanterns glowed at sunset, it felt like Tuscany. How do you see lighting’s role in outdoor styling?
Francis: Lighting is transformative. It’s not an accessory; it’s atmosphere. Here, suspended lanterns and scattered votives created layers of light, bathing the table in golden warmth. At twilight, the scene became almost theatrical, where every lemon, every petal, every glass reflected back with cinematic radiance.
MFS (Lissette): The flowers looked stunning all night long! How do you choose blooms that match the theme but also last outdoors?
Francis: We look for blooms with resilience and presence. For this table, vibrant roses and chrysanthemums were ideal: bold in color, strong in form, and able to withstand the open air. Outdoors, flowers must be both beautiful and practical, and when chosen carefully, they perform as elegantly at midnight as they did at sunset.
Personal Connection & Meaning
MFS (Lissette): You know Italy means so much to me — so many anniversaries, so many memories with my husband. How did you weave my personal story into this table?
Francis: We wanted it to feel like a personal journey back to Italy. The lemons spoke of Sorrento, the ceramics whispered of Amalfi craft, the striped napkins hinted at seaside umbrellas. It was curated not only with beauty in mind, but with your affection for the Mediterranean woven into every detail.
MFS (Lissette): What was your favorite detail — the one that made the biggest impact for you?
Francis: The lemon canopy. It wasn’t just décor, it was architecture. It transformed the table into an orchard by the pool, giving guests the sense of dining beneath lemon trees. That immersive, overhead design elevated the experience from chic to unforgettable.
MFS (Lissette): Sitting at that table, I felt so transported. How do you want guests to feel when they sit at a table you’ve designed?
Francis: We want them to forget for a moment where they are and feel embraced by beauty. At our tables, dining becomes more than food, it becomes memory, emotion, and a celebration of living well.

MFS (Lissette): We can’t forget Samy! What role did he play in bringing this vision to life?
Francis: Samy infused the project with couture sensibility. The precision of textures, the rhythm of the colors, even the decision to structure the table with bold vertical elements, those details bear the mark of a fashion designer’s eye for balance and drama.
MFS (Lissette): You two have worked together so many times. How does this creative partnership shape the final result?
Francis: It’s an exchange of visions. My floral and event perspective meets his couture discipline, and together we create something that feels styled, not staged. It’s as though the table is dressed, not just arranged.
MFS (Lissette): I loved that unplanned magic at twilight, when everything shimmered. Was there a spontaneous moment that surprised you?
Francis: Yes. As we lit the lanterns, the sun was dipping and twilight embraced the garden. Suddenly, everything shifted, the table glowed, the flowers shimmered, and the ambiance became utterly magical. It was unplanned, but it was the moment the table took on a soul.

MFS (Lissette): For readers who want to bring a little Amalfi magic home, what key elements should they focus on?
Francis: Start with color: yellow lemons, blue ceramics, and greenery. Add texture with woven chargers and striped linens. And never underestimate candlelight. With those essentials, even the simplest table can feel Mediterranean and chic.
MFS (Lissette): Do you have a “secret tip” — something small that can make a dinner unforgettable?
Francis: Think vertically. Most people decorate only the tabletop, but when you extend design overhead, with greenery, lanterns, or fruit, you create an immersive atmosphere. Pair that with music and scent, and suddenly dinner becomes an experience.
MFS (Lissette): Finally, as someone always ahead of the curve, what trends in luxury outdoor dining do you see for the coming season?
Francis: Luxury dining is moving toward storytelling. Tables are no longer just styled; they are curated to transport guests. Expect bold colors, immersive themes, and designs that capture the spirit of destinations. This year, it’s less about perfection and more about emotion, tables that feel alive, evocative, and unforgettable.
A Celebration of Friendship, Beauty, and the Mediterranean Spirit
As the evening unfolded, the gentle shimmer of candlelight danced across the water, and laughter mingled with the scent of citrus, fresh blooms, and basil. This table was more than a birthday surprise — it was a heartfelt expression of artistry, friendship, and shared memories.
And because no Italian-inspired evening is complete without food, the menu was as enchanting as the table: gemelli pasta with tomatoes and burrata—one of my all-time favorite dishes. Each bite, in harmony with the décor, created a multisensory journey that brought the spirit of the Mediterranean fully to life. The feast concluded with Tiramisù al Limone as dessert, accompanied by Aperol Spritz and Pinot Grigio—adding sparkle and freshness that carried us straight into the heart of Italy’s lifestyle.
Italy will always remain in my heart. Even though I have traveled extensively around the world, it continues to be my favorite country — not only for its breathtaking culture but also for its charming people. Countless beautiful and joyful moments have unfolded there, always revolving around food, wine, and friends. The language enchants me — how Italians speak with their hands, infusing every word with passion. There is also a profound sense of community that surrounds you wherever you go, a warmth that makes me feel so alive.
Perhaps it’s too soon to think of retirement there… or perhaps not. What I do know is that Italy has given me unforgettable memories, and nights like this one remind me that its spirit will always be part of me.

Hay ocasiones en que la decoración trasciende lo ornamental y se convierte en pura narrativa. En mi cumpleaños de este año, Francis Yechitch —la mente creativa detrás de Alegria Party Design— transformó mi piscina con vista al lago en una oda viviente a la Costa Amalfitana.
Los limones dorados brillaron bajo un dosel de follaje verde, entrelazados con faroles de cristal que parpadeaban al caer la tarde. Para mí, fue toda una sorpresa llena de magia, siendo transportada a Italia —un país que amo profundamente, escenario de tantos viajes y aniversarios junto a mi esposo. Por eso Francis eligió esta decoración: para recrear los lugares que llevo en mi corazón. Las luces pequeñas evocaban la magia de la Toscana, los limones me llevaron directo a la Costa Amalfitana, los toques rústicos me recordaron la campiña de Abruzzo, y los detalles vintage desperon en mi la sensación atemporal que solo Roma, me hace sentir. La puesta en escena también trajo a mi memoria románticos viajes que compartí con mi esposo —desde nuestras caminatas tomados de la mano en Portofino hasta nuestros aniversarios en las serenas aguas del Lago de Como.

Visión Creativa e Inspiración
MFS (Lissette): Francis, gracias nuevamente por este regalo de cumpleaños tan mágico. Todavía me siento abrumada por la belleza y los detalles. Cuéntame, ¿cuál fue tu principal inspiración para crear esta mesa inspirada en la Costa Amalfitana?
Francis: La Costa Amalfitana es la definición de vivir con belleza: sol, mar y cultura en una elegancia sin esfuerzo. Nuestra visión fue traducir esa joie de vivre mediterráneo en una mesa. El amarillo, color de la alegría y la abundancia, se convirtió en el latido principal, acompañado de verdes profundos y azules mediterráneos que reflejan el glamour de esta costa. No es solo una mesa; es una invitación a vivir una noche de verano cinematográfica en Italia.
MFS (Lissette): Noté que cada elemento estaba conectado, como si contara una historia. ¿Cómo lograste integrar detalles mediterráneos como los limones, las cerámicas azules y el follaje en una composición tan armónica?
Francis: Lo abordamos como la alta costura: cada capa cuidadosamente pensada hasta que todo se sintiera vivo. Los limones aportaron vitalidad, las cerámicas azules nos hablan de herencia y arte, y el follaje suaviza y une todo. El resultado no es ecléctico sino armonioso, como si cada elemento siempre hubiera pertenecido allí.
MFS (Lissette): Tú conoces mi amor por Italia. ¿Hubo algún recuerdo, viaje o momento tuyo en Italia que inspirara esta mesa?
Francis: Sí, por supuesto. Recién hemos regresado de Italia, cuna del arte y el diseño. Paseamos por los mercados de Capri, cenamos al aire libre en Positano y ver los faroles encenderse al anochecer fueron momentos que se convirtieron en el ADN de este diseño. Nosotros nunca hacemos recreaciones exactas; simplemente usamos nuestras experiencias como inspiración para nuestro propio arte. Una destilación de recuerdos en atmósfera, color y detalles.
Proceso de Diseño y Detalles
MFS (Lissette): Cuando me senté en esta mesa, no podía dejar de admirar la combinacion de todos los elementos. ¿Cómo escogiste esa combinación tan impactante?
Francis: Lo que hice fue crear un diálogo a través del color. Los platos verdes anclan el paisaje, los jarrones azules aportan tradición mediterránea, y las flores —rosas y margaritas— irradian la energía soleada de la costa. Juntos evocan la armonía del mar, la tierra y el cielo.
MFS (Lissette): La iluminación me robó el corazón. Cuando los faroles brillaron al atardecer, sentí que estaba en la Toscana. ¿Qué papel juega la luz en un montaje al aire libre?
Francis: La iluminación es transformadora. No es un accesorio; es atmósfera. Aquí, los faroles suspendidos y las velas distribuidas crearon capas de luz que bañaron la mesa en un resplandor dorado. Al caer la noche, la escena se volvió casi teatral: cada limón, cada pétalo, cada copa reflejaban una radiancia cinematográfica.
MFS (Lissette): ¡Las flores se mantuvieron hermosas toda la noche! ¿Cómo eliges flores que complementen el tema y además resistan al aire libre?
Francis: Buscamos flores con presencia y resistencia. Para esta mesa, las rosas y crisantemos eran ideales: intensas en color, fuertes en forma y capaces de soportar el aire libre. Elegidas con cuidado, lucen tan elegantes a medianoche como al atardecer.
Conexión Personal y Significado
MFS (Lissette): Tú sabes lo que Italia significa para mí —tantos aniversarios, tantos recuerdos con mi esposo. ¿Cómo lograste reflejar esa historia personal en la mesa?
Francis: Queríamos que se sintiera como un viaje personal de regreso a Italia. Los limones te hablaron de Sorrento, mientras las las cerámicas susurraban de la artesanía amalfitana, las servilletas rayadas recordaban las sombrillas de la playa. Todo fue curado no solo con estética, sino tejiendo tu amor por el Mediterráneo en cada detalle.
MFS (Lissette): ¿Cuál fue tu detalle favorito, el que sientes que causó el mayor impacto?
Francis: El dosel de limones. No fue solo decoración, fue arquitectura. Transformó la mesa en un huerto junto a la piscina, dando a los invitados la sensación de cenar bajo limoneros. Ese diseño envolvente elevó la experiencia de chic a inolvidable.
MFS (Lissette): Sentada allí, me sentí transportada. ¿Cómo quieres que se sientan los invitados en tus mesas decoradas?
Francis: Queremos que se sientan transportados. Que por un momento olviden dónde están y se dejen abrazar por la belleza. En nuestras mesas decoradas, la cena deja de ser solo una comida: se convierte en memoria, emoción y celebración de la buena vida.
Colaboración y Trabajo en Equipo
MFS (Lissette): ¡No podemos olvidar a Samy! ¿Qué papel jugó él en este concepto?
Francis: Samy impregnó el proyecto con sensibilidad de alta costura. La precisión en las texturas, el ritmo de los colores, incluso la decisión de estructurar la mesa con elementos verticales audaces, todo eso lleva la huella de un diseñador con ojo para el equilibrio y el drama.
MFS (Lissette): Ustedes han trabajado juntos muchas veces. ¿Cómo influye esa alianza creativa en el resultado final?
Francis: Es un intercambio de visiones. Mi perspectiva floral y de eventos se une a su disciplina de alta costura, y juntos creamos algo que se siente estilizado, no escenificado. Es como si la mesa estuviera vestida, no simplemente decorada.
MFS (Lissette): Amé ese momento espontáneo al anochecer, cuando todo brillaba. ¿Hubo algún instante inesperado que te sorprendiera?
Francis: Sí. Cuando encendimos los faroles, el sol ya caía y el crepúsculo abrazaba el jardín. De repente, todo cambió: la mesa brilló, las flores resplandecieron y la atmósfera se volvió mágica. No estaba planeado, pero fue el instante en que la mesa cobró alma.
Consejos y Tendencias
MFS (Lissette): Para quienes quieran llevar un poco de la magia amalfitana a casa, ¿en qué elementos deberían enfocarse?
Francis: Empiecen con el color: limones amarillos, cerámicas azules y mucho verde. Agreguen textura con bases tejidas y servilletas rayadas. Y nunca subestimen el poder de las velas. Con esos esenciales, hasta la mesa más sencilla puede sentirse mediterránea y muy chic.
MFS (Lissette): ¿Tienes algún “secreto” de decoración que haga inolvidable una cena al aire libre?
Francis: Piensen en vertical. La mayoría solo decora la superficie, pero al extender el diseño hacia arriba, con follaje, faroles o frutas, crean un ambiente envolvente. Súmenle música y aroma, y de pronto la cena se transforma en una experiencia inolvidable.
MFS (Lissette): Para cerrar, como alguien siempre a la vanguardia, ¿qué tendencias ves en el luxury outdoor dining para la próxima temporada?
Francis: La alta gastronomía al aire libre se mueve hacia la narrativa. Las mesas ya no se diseñan solo para verse bien; se curan para transportar a los invitados a una experiencia unica. Esperen colores intensos, temas inmersivos y diseños que capturen el espíritu de los destinos. Este año no se trata de perfección, sino de emoción: mesas vivas, evocadoras e inolvidables.
Una Celebración de Amistad, Belleza y Espíritu Mediterráneo
A medida que avanzaba la noche, el resplandor de las velas fue reflejandose en el agua mientras las risas se fueron mezclando con el aroma de cítricos, flores frescas y albahaca. Esta mesa de Francis, fue más que una sorpresa de cumpleaños–fue una expresión sincera de arte, amistad y recuerdos compartidos.

Y porque ninguna velada inspirada en Italia está completa sin buena comida, el menú fue tan encantador como la mesa: pasta gemelli con tomates y burrata —uno de mis platos favoritos de todos los tiempos. Cada bocado, en perfecta armonía con la decoración, creó un viaje multisensorial que trajo a la vida todo el espíritu del Mediterráneo. La fiesta culminó con un Tiramisù al Limone como postre, acompañado de Aperol Spritz y Pinot Grigio, que añadieron un toque de frescura y burbujeante alegría, transportándonos directamente al corazón del estilo de vida italiano.
Italia siempre vivirá en mi corazón. Y muy a pesar que he viajado por gran parte del mundo, Italia sigue siendo mi país favorito —no solo por su cultura fascinante, sino por la calidez de su gente. Allí he vivido momentos inolvidables, siempre entrelazados con buena comida, excelente vino y amigos. Adoro el idioma —cómo lo hablan con las manos, llenando cada palabra con esa pasión que solo ellos saben transmitir. Amo tambien, ese sentido de comunidad que se respira en cada rincón, una calidez que me hace sentir viva.
Quizás sea muy pronto para pensar en retirarme allá… o tal vez no. Lo que sí sé es que Italia me ha regalado recuerdos imborrables, y noches como esta me recuerdan que su espíritu siempre será parte de mí.
