Acclaimed box office star, producer, and humanitarian Richard Gere opened the 34th edition of Miami Dade College’s Miami Film Festival. The event took place on March 3, at the Olympia Theater in Downtown Miami.

Gere arrived with his girlfriend, Spanish publicist, Alejandra Silva, and was greeted by a roaring crowd all eager to catch a glimpse of the star. He was also joined at the step-and-repeat by Israeli filmmaker Joseph Cedar who directed Gere’s latest film, Norman.
Q& A Session
Also, making an appearance were Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón, President of Miami Dade College (MDC), and Jaie Laplante, executive director of MDC’s Miami Film Festival. More than 1,600 people gathered to watch the Q&A session.
The Q&A session took place just prior to the screening of the 117-minute, two-time Oscar-nominated film.
Champagne & Stars Opening Night!
Following the screening, Gere, Cedar and guests attended the CHAMPAGNE & STARS Opening Night Party, presented by Korbel at Miami’s Historic Alfred I. Dupont Building.
Since the start of the Festival, film buffs have been treated to 131 feature narratives, feature documentaries, and short films from 40 countries, including 22 world and international premieres, which will run until March 12, 2017
Finally, the Festival will close with an Awards Night Gala screening of the International premiere of For Your Own Good.
