Oscar de la Renta at Bal Harbour Shops celebrated the fashion’s biggest night of the year: ‘Fashion’s Night Out’ with an evening of flamenco.
The elegant celebration started with a fabulous performance of flamenco that took everybody’s breath away, in addition to special Spanish menu by Executive Chef Giovanni Arias, from Canyon Ranch Hotel & Spa (Miami Beach).
Socialites, VIPs and local influencers of our community were gathered to peruse and shop the latest Oscar de la Renta Collections while they were pampered with wines and music.
A portion of the proceeds was donated to Locust Projects, an alternative non for profit exhibition space.
Flamenco: The story behind the theme

“There is a story behind the flamenco theme tonight: When Mr. De La Renta arrived in Spain from Dominican Republic where he is from. He went to study at an art school and his first day he went to flamenco performance-they were very famous performers. He was really captivated by the dance, the exuberance for life, colors and the character of the women. He was interesting in capturing the essence of women, not only by their femininity but also their strength. That was the difference that began his entire couture designs. He started to appreciate the Gypsy sensibility and that kind of open doors for him,” said Dante Carpenter, Store Manager of Oscar de la Renta at Bal Harbour Shops.

“Few months later Mr. De La Renta asked a friend to teach him how to dress according to the mode of where he was; his friend took him to get his custom made suit, from then Oscar de la Renta wore a red carnation on his lapel. Carnation is the signature flower of Flamenco, so it’s here today -The palette of colors of this collection is black and white with a little touch of red. Red is the mist of all the black and white expressions,” added Carpenter. “This collection captured the essence of women. When you look at these designs, these fabulous pieces bring to you femininity, also show you strength and zest for life!”
