Interview: Celebrity Dentist Karent Sierra: Rise and Shining
Profile: Celebrity Dentist. Host of TV Show “BELatina”. Actress in Bravo TV Series “Real Housewives of Miami” (Season 2 & 3). Philanthropist.
MFS Magazine: We are very happy about your great return to television through the program “BELatina” broadcast by Lifetime and FYI, national channels of the A&E Network. Tell us how you were chosen to host this show alongside Chef James Tahhan.
Karent Sierra: I feel very lucky and proud because the production company knew about my experience on television, and they wanted to meet me in person. When they met me, they offered me the job right away, I mean I didn’t have to do a casting; they simply wanted to confirm what they thought when they met with me.
MFS: Is it true that “BELatina” is a program that celebrates women and multicultural diversity and how do they fulfill these two important missions in each program?
KS: That’s right, in “BELatina,” we celebrate women and multicultural diversity while focusing on empowering women, teaching inspiring, and motivational stories, life challenges, finance issues, gastronomy, fashion, doing activities at home or away, learning new exercise techniques, and many other topics thus to impact and improve the lives of all women.
MFS: We still remember you on the Bravo TV series, “Real Housewives of Miami”. How could you summarize your experience of having been part of this cast that has had so many followers? Is there an anecdote that you always remember that you want to share with us?
KS: Being a part of the cast of “Real Housewives of Miami” was an experience I will never forget, and I believe it made me a happier and prouder woman. I’ve learned to disregard what others think or judge as long as we do the right thing with honesty and consistently perform well.
MFS: We have seen you collaborate with the most important TV shows in the United States, such as: “Despierta América” (Univisión), “Hoy Día” (Telemundo), “Access Holywood” and we have seen your image in many magazines, such as “Hola Magazine” and People en Español” where you have always stood out for your style when it comes to dressing. Do you consider yourself a fashion lover? What are your criteria when choosing each wardrobe?
KS: Since I was little, I’ve had a love of fashion. I believe that the most important thing for me is to wear what makes me feel good, happy, beautiful, and confident, rather than what is trendy.
Supporting Local Talent
MFS: We know that you like to support local talent and we remember that in the Bravo TV series on several occasions you were dressed by the local designer, Viviana Gabeiras, who is dressing you for this editorial. Do you have any special connection with the designer or her pieces?
KS: Viviana Gabeiras is an amazing designer, and I love how her dresses kind of hug you and keep you warm while also being extremely comfortable. It’s so refreshing and pleasing.
MFS: You are also a celebrated dentist specializing in cosmetic dentistry from “LVI Global International Las Vegas Institution”. The press calls you the “Celebrity Dentist”. How do you coordinate both activities: Recordings of “BELatina” and the administration of your clinic “Sierra Dentistry & MedSpa”?
KS: I’ve always wanted to strike a balance between my two careers. I normally work as a dentist from Monday to Wednesday, attending to my patients, and I spend Thursdays and Fridays recording for television or traveling for work—I have the flexibility to change my schedules because I own my clinic.
MFS: What makes Karent Sierra feel empowered? And through what activity do you help other women to feel empowered?
KS: I attribute my sense of empowerment to my mother, who always encouraged me to work hard, study, and achieve my goals. And, thanks to the opportunity of hosting the show “BELatina,” which is a great platform, I can help many women improve their lives with segments that motivate and inspire them to grow in all aspects. Also with my foundation, I’ve been able to help many women, not only with their smiles but also by spending time with them and assisting them in overcoming their fears so that they, too, can get ahead.
MFS: We would like to talk about your non-profit foundation, “Sharing Smiles”. How you have made your dream of bringing dentistry to communities in need around the world possible.?
KS: My “Sharing Smiles” foundation was established in 2009. And it has allowed us to travel to various parts of the world, including India (twice), Kenya (twice), Colombia, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic. When we visit these countries, we not only provide free dentistry, but we also help build water wells, and schools and provide clothing and food. We also have volunteers with medical experience who can assist with antibiotics and minor surgeries. It makes me happy to see so many children with such joy on their faces. It warms my heart to be able to offer “my grain of sand” to all those who require it.
