Miami Design District Unveils Ad Minoliti’s “Pink Spatial Microbiota” as a Permanent Installation at the Buick Building
A Major New Addition to Miami’s Contemporary Art Scene

The Miami Design District announces “Pink Spatial Microbiota,” a permanent, site-specific installation by acclaimed Argentine artist Ad Minoliti (b. 1980). Spanning four floors inside the historic Buick Building, the work reimagines the stairwell as a digestive system—a vibrant internal ecosystem animated by geometric abstractions, playful silhouettes, and a queer reframing of art history.
Minoliti explains the concept simply yet powerfully: the microbiota—the microorganisms present in all multicellular organisms—challenge ideals of purity and hygiene while dismantling binary notions of biological “good” and “evil.” In this spirit, the stairwell becomes a living, non-binary body, alive with color, motion, and meaning.
Geometry, Humor, and Queerness in Dialogue

Throughout the space, figures with rectangular heads and swirling legs transform the stairwell into a playful, immersive environment. Minoliti’s square forms echo the language of Concrete art from Argentina and Uruguay in the 1940s and ’50s, paying tribute to artists of the Madí Group while subverting that legacy with humor and queerness.
Instead of pursuing a “universal poetry,” the project invites visitors to reconsider the built environment as a site of multiplicity, play, and joy.
How to Experience “Pink Spatial Microbiota”

“Pink Spatial Microbiota” reflects the District’s ongoing commitment to groundbreaking, site-specific art experiences. Like the Craig Robins Collection, the installation is private but accessible by appointment. To arrange a visit, contact the Miami Design District at 305-531-8700.
