]]>Luxury Valentine’s Day Décor | For Valentine’s Day, Lissette Rondon, Editorial Director of Miami Fashion Spotlight, envisioned a setting beyond the ordinary—one that redefined romance with artistry, sophistication, and a couture-inspired aesthetic. In collaboration with Alegria Party Design, led by Artistic Director Francis Rosales and Fashion Creative Samy Gicherman, a one-of-a-kind concept was born. The result? A breathtaking, marine-inspired masterpiece that transcends traditional Valentine’s Day décor. This exclusive design merges the serene elegance of the ocean with the couture craftsmanship of luxury event styling. More than just a table setting, it became an immersive experience that captured the essence of fashion, beauty, and romance.

Lissette Rondon wanted something extraordinary—a setting that felt fashion-forward, elegant, and unique. She asked for a bespoke tablescape, steering away from the expected red roses and pink hearts. “Something different, unique, and out of this world.” With this challenge in mind, Francis Rosales and Samy Gicherman designed a Valentine’s Day concept that broke the rules of romance. Their inspiration came from the tranquil beauty of the sea, bringing together elements that felt ethereal, luxurious, and unexpected.

The final setup? A breathtaking masterpiece where the tranquility of the ocean met high fashion aesthetics. The tablescape unfolded like a visual symphony. Soft oceanic blues, delicate blush pinks, and shimmering golds blended seamlessly, capturing the ethereal beauty of a sunrise over crystal-clear waters. Every hue was intentionally layered, creating a dreamscape where fashion and nature coexisted in perfect harmony.
The floral arrangements were nothing short of couture. A carefully curated selection of delphinium, peonies, hydrangeas, roses, sweet pea, and thistle mimicked the fluid movement of ocean waves. To enhance the understated opulence, the table featured:
– Pearls and gold accents, adding a timeless, elegant touch.
– Intricate marine elements, such as starfish, coral textures, and ocean-inspired napkin rings featuring seahorses and crabs.
– Glassware in translucent blues, mirroring the depth of the sea.
– Candlelit ambiance and sheer flowing fabric, creating an editorial-worthy atmosphere.
“This was not just a Valentine’s Day table,” says Lissette Rondon. “It was a curated experience of romance and luxury. Every detail felt intentional, like a carefully designed haute couture gown—where textures, movement, and emotion all played a role in the storytelling.”

“When Lissette came to us, she had a clear request—something that defied tradition,” shares Rosales. “She didn’t want the usual Valentine’s Day setup. That gave us the creative freedom to design a setting that felt modern, and couture-inspired.”
MFS: This Valentine’s Day décor was a bespoke creation for Lissette Rondon. How did you ensure the design reflected her signature style and appreciation for high fashion?
Francis: “For us, designing a Valentine’s Day table for Lissette was about translating her love for uniqueness into a luxurious reality. We focused on details that captured her sophisticated and fashion-forward aesthetic, ensuring the final ambiance was both elegant and deeply personal. Every design decision was made with her distinctive taste in mind, from the soft, oceanic blues to the bold, sculptural floral arrangements.”
Lissette (smiling): “I told Francis, ‘no pressure, surprise me, but no red roses, no pink hearts—let’s break the rules of Valentine’s Day décor!’”
Francis (laughs): “No pressure, right? But that’s what I love about working with you—you always inspire us to push boundaries and create something spectacular.”
MFS: Your designs are known for being bold, extravagant, and fashion-forward. What was your creative vision for this tablescape?
Francis: “For this haute couture-inspired Valentine’s décor, we looked to Sanibel and Captiva Islands, a romantic retreat beloved by Lissette and her husband Frank. Just like a couture collection tells a story, this setting was designed to feel timeless, elegant, and deeply personal. Every detail—from the sculptural florals to the oceanic textures—was meticulously curated to exude romantic sophistication while remaining fashion-forward. The combination of florals, pearls, custom tableware, and ethereal candlelight made the final setting feel otherworldly yet deeply intimate.”
MFS: Luxury event styling, is about personalization, exclusivity, and setting trends. How does APD bring that philosophy to private settings like this one?
Francis: “At Alegria Party Design, we approach high-end event styling the way a couture house approaches fashion—every element is meticulously curated, ensuring it feels like a work of art. For this project, we combined luxury event styling with fashion aesthetics, creating a tailored, trendsetting experience that was uniquely Lissette’s.”

“Just as in haute couture, luxury event styling is about layering textures, coordinating colors, and creating harmony between elements,” says Samy Gicherman. “This design wasn’t just about beauty; it was about evoking emotion, making the table feel alive, fluid, and captivating.”
MFS: You are known for your eye for luxury and impeccable attention to detail in fashion. How do you bring that same couture sensibility into Alegria Party Design’s décor projects?
Samy: “For me, event styling is an extension of fashion—it’s about understanding how elements like textures, movement, and intricate details come together to create a statement of elegance. Just like in fashion design, everything must be perfectly balanced, refined, and intentional. This was a tablescape designed to inspire—much like a haute couture runway piece.”
MFS: Luxury is always in the details—whether in fashion or event décor. What are the standout elements in this table setting that truly make it a statement of elegance?
Samy: “This Valentine’s Day décor is filled with statement details—intricate floral arrangements, luxurious marine textures, soft candlelight, and custom-curated tableware. The combination of delicate blooms, pearl accents, and elegant blue glassware gave the setting an unparalleled sense of refinement and exclusivity.”
Francis (jumps in with a grin): “And of course, we couldn’t have done this without our top-secret creative meetings, which always start with a gossip session about the fashion world.”
Lissette (laughs): “Oh please, that’s half the fun! We can’t just work—we need to discuss what’s happening in Paris, Milan, and New York. The drama, the trends, the scandals!”
Samy (adds, playfully): “And let’s be real—half of the best design ideas come after a little celebrity fashion gossip.”

This “out of this world” Valentine’s Day tablescape is a perfect example of how event styling can transcend décor and become a sensory experience. Alegria Party Design has once again proven that true luxury lies in the details, in the ability to turn a simple request into a stunning reality that captivates and inspires. “True luxury isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about emotion, experience, and the art of storytelling,” concludes Lissette Rondon. “And this table wasn’t just décor—it was a dream brought to life.”

]]>The post Exclusive Preview: The D’Mare Beachwear & Resort Collection by Fabrizio De Castro appeared first on Miami Fashion Spotlight.
]]>In Miami, it is always summer, especially on our beaches, where the radiant sun and the sea invite us to enjoy this paradise all year. That is why we need a designer who understands our timeless swimsuit needs. And who better than the talented local designer, Fabrizio De Castro, who opened the doors of his South Beach home to show us, in an exclusive preview, the most recent collection of his line “D’mare Beachwear and Resort” — a proposal that would premiere during Swim Week.
MFS: Tell us a little more about this new proposal.
FDC: I bring an authentic proposal with limited edition designs of “GFDCastro”. The collection is aimed at women and men and is made up of innovative “Mikonian” pieces with many handmade details. I chose a color palette highlighting beachy blues, orange and yellow, interspersed with striking prints such as “snake-bodrum-night-dreams” and “snake-prints” in pink pastel to create that perfect harmony when paired with my resort pieces.
MFS: What was the inspiration?
FDC: My trip to Mykonos and Ibiza. I used gradients in one-piece for the refined woman and in two-piece for the outgoing woman, proud of her curves. Bikinis in vogue Brazilian design were also included. And for resort, I incorporated a lot of maya-crochet patterns into pieces that were knee-length or shorter, as well as tunics and blouses. For the men’s Resort collection, I created “hot-pants” to go with their black shirts so they can confidently stroll to their beaches. The men’s swimsuits are made of black “opalillo-stretch” fabric, which goes with everything.
MFS: This edition is dedicated to female empowerment. What does FDC think about women empowerment?
FDC: I’ve always designed with women’s beauty and empowerment in mind, making them feel unique. It embodies everything that a man seeks in a woman: authenticity!
MFS: What do you have prepared for the show?
FDC: After almost two years of the pandemic, we are thirsty for beauty and fashion, so it will be a night to remember. To achieve goals, you must never stop dreaming. I want attendees go away with visions of a wonderful future filled with happiness and joy memories.

FDC: Mi viaje a Mykonos e Ibiza.

]]>The post Women Empowerment: Q+A with Gisela Lowenstein appeared first on Miami Fashion Spotlight.
]]>MFS Magazine: What have been the greatest accomplishments in your personal & professional life?
Gisela Lowenstein: Family is everything to me and is the source of my greatest accomplishments in life. My husband Diego and I have been married for 28 years and have three beautiful, adult children. With their help, I have been able to navigate some of the scariest times of my life, including my own health issues. I am a breast cancer survivor. I was diagnosed at 34 years old only two years after my own mother passed away from ovarian cancer. The strength of my family got me through that time of my life. In my professional life, the greatest accomplishment I’ve made is learning when to say no. It’s difficult to determine what your boundaries are and to enforce them when necessary; but it’s something I’m proud to have achieved. Especially when I switched careers, I had to make the decision to say no to one career and say yes to another. That was a hard process, but ultimately lead me to creating my own business in which I get to support women and family-business leaders challenge their own mindsets and thrive.
MFS: How have you had to pivot during the pandemic?
GL: The pandemic has been one of the most challenging moments the world has gone through, and when challenges arise, family is my refuge. We were all under the same roof again, and through the months we spent together, we shared the experience of navigating these uncertain times. This was a big reminder that support can look different depending on the situation– not only about bringing solutions, but also about being next to each other, offering a helping hand and space to reflect. This has given me a lot of perspective in my own business practices and has helped me develop a bespoke approach to the way I work with clients.
MFS: What advice would you give to new entrepreneurs about how they can approach challenges like the pandemic?
GL: My advice is to live in the energy of the solution. It is easy to be consumed by what you can’t control. Be adaptable, tolerant, listen to your intuition, and align your energy with the outcome you want to create.
MFS: Who is your favorite designer?
GL: Silvia Tcherassi. She has such a unique ability to meld story and art together in every collection.
MFS: What is the best job interview attire?
GL: You should wear whatever describes your personality and makes you feel empowered–adding a personal flair that shows what you’re all about.
MFS: What do you think about fashion in Miami and where it’s headed?
GL: Miami has gone through an incredible transformation in the past decade that has resulted in having access to fashion for all shapes, budgets, and tastes with a special environment where everything works, and anything goes.

MFS: ¿Como has enfrentado la pandemia?

]]>The post Session with Viviana Gabeiras at ‘Draw: A party with great lines’ event appeared first on Miami Fashion Spotlight.
]]>While guests were socializing, drawing and receiving tips from the artists, we had the opportunity to have a session with the creator of the brand Petit Pois, Viviana Gabeiras.
Our moment with Gabeiras gave insight to her incredible world of art and fashion, as well as her motivation to promote fashion in Miami. Here is a breakdown of our time with her.
Lissette Rondon: Tell us about your participation in this event, DRAW?
Viviana Gabeiras: This would be the second year that the Art Center of South Florida and the Miami Design District make the Draw event. This event which unites fashion and art, creates an interactive platform between artists, designers, models and the general public. My Brand Ambassador Valeria Luzio was commissioned to do the styling of the event and she submitted Petit Pois by Viviana G to be the sponsoring brand.
LR: What collection are you presenting tonight?
VG: The theme of the event is Pantone Color of the Year, which is a peach hue. This is the reason why all the designs that were chosen fall in this range of colors. We are not only presenting top notch fashion pieces, we are also displaying some special vintage designs.
LR: What is the purpose of today’s event?
VG: Today’s event aims at creating a link between art and fashion. The Art Center South Florida aims to encourage the general public to draw in the festive spirit and showcase their individual talent. It is quite interesting to experience how artists as well as the public express their perspectives and vies when drawing with various techniques. I was quite elated to fuse and reapply my own designs. It took me back to my days of illustration classes back at the Parsons School of Design in New York.
LR: Tell us a little bit what you are going to do in Vegas.
VG: The most important Fashion Trade Show is taking place at Las Vegas. There, we get to showcase our latest collection even before the New York market can get to see it. On these trips, we focus on increasing interaction with our clients while opening up new accounts. Trade shows are an integral part of the fashion business.
LR: Lately, you have been an advocate in promoting fashion and art in Miami. What has been the motivation behind this?
VG: I have been a local designer for many years, and I understand the difficulties encountered when starting up here in Miami. Fashion and art always go hand in hand, and it is essential to support and recognize new talent. This is the board of the Fashion Group International of South Florida, of which I am a member, supports new designers and enables them to achieve their goals and build a reputation in the fashion industry. Therefore, we create opportunities such as these events where we also work with the local universities.
LR: What are your thoughts on the growth of the fashion industry in Miami, especially in the Miami Design District?
VG: The Design District contributes a lot to the City of Miami. One of its contributions is in employment. There has been an increase in the stores with recognized brands and these stores require human beings as resources to run their daily activities. However, there is still more work left to be done. Local designers need an avenue to showcase their talent without hassles such as high rents and overhead costs that stunt their growth. We need the local government to help allocate areas for the locals and contribute to the economy. This would help establish many job opportunities.
LR: This is a new fun session that we have adopted in our interviews in 2019, it helps our readers know a little more about local designers. So, I’m going to ask you 10 questions, you’ll have to answer with the first thing that comes to your mind …
LR- What has been the most significant moment in your life?
VG: Personal, the birth of my children. Professionally, obtaining my title from Parsons School of Design in New York and Paris and when some of my designs were on the front page in the most famous fashion newspaper in the United States “The Women Wear Daily” WWD.
LR: Why the name of your Brand was called Petit Pois?
VG: Petit Pois has the color of money. It does not matter where you put it, it is always bold it, due of its color, its shape, its taste! It represented my growth process, from being the designer of Sweet Pea to being the creator of Petit Pois by Viviana Gabeiras, all stages that marked a moment of fundamental evolution in my life. I evolved as a person especially in my style and also what the brand represents. I gave to my brand what it now represents; a more sophisticated look, transforming today into a complete collection: “An American Lifestyle Brand”
LR: What is fashion for you?
VG: My oxygen!
LR: If you could be a hero, who would you be?
VG: Wonder Woman
LR: Book that you have read several times and would read again.
VG: Fashion history books, and storybooks like Alice in Wonderland.
LR: Technology which you identify with the most.
VG: One of our last projects has been to be part of Graupel. They have a new technology that makes a body scanner, it copies the body of the person and develops an avatar with the same measurement and then develops the tailored suits. Thus, customers can see their avatar put on the suit, they see how it fits perfectly.
The client receives the costume made suit in a beautiful wrap and with a personal dedication. The client can always reorder online without having to move from home. She already has her “Avatar”. I would like to invite you to make your avatar and be part of this revolutionary technology, you would be a perfect candidate.
LR: What does Happiness mean to you?
VG: There is no such thing as eternal and constant happiness. Happiness is affected by everything that happens around the human being and his family. It is achieved when you achieve balance in your life and fill your life with what is important to you, such as the work you like, the ideal partner etc.
Happiness is really family and love; Happiness lies when you are happy with yourself and you love yourself. Artists and creators are restless human beings that are always in constant search to fill void with creativity. It is quite difficult to please us, we must learn to be happy with ourselves internally first.
LR: What is your biggest goal for 2019?
VG: The launch of my retrospective book and celebrate the 20th year anniversary of my brand, with an exhibition showcasing the most important pieces in all the years of trajectory, complete with a special runway of our new look.
LR: What would you forecast as a fashion trend for 2020 and 2021?
VG: We want to evolve towards the sustainable development of designs and fabrics that protect the environment. A lot of big names have taken this step, however the resulting price of the designs have drastically increased. We hope to strike a balance in which sustainability in the fashion industry exist without a positive impact on the environment.
LR: If I tell you that I have a time machine and that you could go to any particular year, it could be from the past or the future. What year would you choose?
VG: The 20’s or “La Belle Epoque”.

VG: Wonder Woman.
LR: Libro que has leído varias veces y volverías a leer.
VG: No existe felicidad eterna y constante.
VG: Los años 20’s o “La Belle Epoque”.

]]>The post Julia Lemigova Launches Russie Blanche Cosmetics line in Miami appeared first on Miami Fashion Spotlight.
]]>Russie Blanche the skincare and spa brand, founded in Paris by the last Miss USSR and former model, Julia Lemigova, launched stateside at Clyde’s in New York, Neiman Marcus in Bal Harbour, Florida, The Standard Hotel, The Delano Hotel and Sean Donaldson Hair in Miami. While touring the world as Miss USSR and modeling, Julia began her search for a “better way of life,” in each country she visited; she studied and experienced the local beauty rituals, opening her first well-being center in 2003, on the rue de la Renaissance in Paris’ 8th arrondissement.
It quickly became the “it” place for Parisian socialites. In response to her clients’ demands and in collaboration with Parisian dermatologists and scientists, Julia launched the Russie Blanche Skin Care and Body Care in 2009. Inspired by the Russian Beauty traditions she grew up with and refined by her many years living in Paris.
Our Founder & President, Lissette Rondon got an exclusive interview with Julia Lemigova, during her launching products at Sean Donaldson Hair in South Beach, where she talks about her beginnings, her beauty line here in Miami, next projects, and more.

Lissette Rondon: Tell us a little about your beginnings at the beauty & spa world.
Julia Lemigova: “I always was attracted to fashion and beauty. When I was 18 years old I won the miss Russia competition and that was my ticket to discover other parts of the world; the panel was a model agency from England and they invited me to work with them as a model in Paris.
After so many years of working in fashion, I was in Thailand and I discovered the spa world and I knew that was the time to say good-bye to the modeling industry before the modeling industry said good-bye to me. So I came back home, Paris at that time, and I opened a spa. I started to learn about skin care, search development, aromatherapy among others and after 6 years of running my spa I opened my own beauty line “Russie Blanche.”

LR: Tell me about the launching of your beauty line “Russie Blanche” here in Miami.
JL: Many years ago I participated in the Miss Universe Competition I came in second, I did not speak English at all and I promised myself that one day, I would be back to the USA and I would speak English. I learned English and I learned a lot about the products and I thought that was the right time to come back to America but where should I go? For skin care and beauty products the option were two cities: New York and L.A. But I came to Miami for vacations and I fell in love with the city. According to my vision in Miami, you can be yourself and you are a couple of hours from New York and L.A if you need to go there for business. So I packed my things and settled here in Miami and slowly I have been launching my products here in the city. The first place was in Neiman Marcus in Bal Harbour, the second was the Spa at Delano hotel and the Standard Hotel and then I met Sean (Owner of Sean Donaldson Hair) and that’s why we are here today, launching “Russie Blanche” at Sean’s salon in South Beach.
LR– How has the feedback of Miami’s women to “Russie Blanche” beauty line been?
JL: In my presentations, I got a lot of compliments for the women that tried the facials with me because my product works perfect for Miami’s clients, especially the “Siberian Petals” cream and serum because they are so light and not heavy that makes them perfect for this weather.

LR: What do you think business women need to know to be successful in the beauty business?
JL: There is no secret formula to be successful in any business but there is something that is definitely helpful and it is being truly passionate about what you do and being disciplined, both of them together, because you can be passionate and not disciplined, and vice versa, and you won’t make it.
LR– What is your next project?
JL: I will be launching a new product soon and of course continuing launching my line in a few spas here in the city.
LR: Could you define your work and yourself with just three words?
JL: Curious, passionate and loving life.

]]>The post High-End Fashion Designer Luis Antonio Takes Over Miami appeared first on Miami Fashion Spotlight.
]]>Puerto Rican high-end fashion designer, Luis Antonio took over our city to present his Caribbean inspiration, “Maritime Collection” at the Gala of “Ganando Sonrisas” Foundation at Wynwood in our city of Miami, on December 17, 2014.
As the reflection of Luis Antonio’s staple over the past 20 years, this talented designer has become distinguished in the competitive fashion world by his modern and cosmopolitan collections, showing the world that he knows how to bring his ideas to life!
Luis Antonio’s creative pieces have also been celebrated by international celebrities, such as: Jennifer Lopez, Amaury Nolasco, Jennifer Morrison and Roselyn Sanchez along with Gisselle Blondet, Barbara Bermudo, Adamaris Lopez, and Dayanara Torres, among others.
Our founder and president, Lissette Rondon got an exclusive interview with the rising fashion star where he talks about his fashion presentation in Miami, his success at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York, his future projects, and more…
Lissette Rondon: Tell us how you feel about your presentation here in Miami?
Luis Antonio: “Very happy to have the opportunity to showcase my ‘Maritime Collection,’ which I just introduced in New York and Puerto Rico, and because it will be a Gala to benefit “Ganando Sonrisas” Foundation.”It’s a nice way to give back and support important causes in Latin-America with my show and my talent.”
LR: How did you get the idea of presenting your “Maritime Collection” at the Gala of “Ganando Sonrisas” Foundation?
LA: “I have a great friendship with Edith and Carlos and the proposal was made to present ‘Maritime Collection’ here. It is the first time that I present a complete collection in Miami. I’ve presented other collections but smaller, plus this is my most important collection now. I feel that fulfills many goals in one single event. ”
LR- Tell us about your experience at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York.
LA: “Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York is the goal of every fashion designer. We all want to present there because it is one of the most important fashion events worldwide. Every year, luminaries of fashion such as: Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, among others, go to present their collections there. I feel so proud of being another Latin designer that opens new paths for younger generations to come. MBFWNY has been the most important step in my career!”
LR: Let’s talk about “Maritime Collection.” What inspired you to create this collection?
LA: “I am a fan of the nautical theme and because it was my first presentation I wanted to do a show with something completely different, I wanted to do it abstract. I designed with my team from the fabrics to the shoes. I did not want sailors and captains. I wanted New York to see another point of view on this subject, another concept through my collection.”
LR: What do you like most about this collection?
LA: “Absolutely everything. I spent 20 years preparing for this moment of my career. I took care of all the details, traces of fabric; I worked closely with my stylists and makeup artists for my fashion presentation. It was a great team and that was seen in the final result. I did not think it was necessary showcasing many pieces, I think the thirty four pieces that I presented were a fashion statement.”
LR: Tell us about the designs of the shoes—they were another fashion hit.
LA: “The shoes were a collaboration with a chain of stores in Puerto Rico. I had designed shoes with them for seasons and we decided to do something special for MBFWNY—amazingly the first lot that we released was sold out.”
LR: What do you think of fashion in Miami?
LA: “A very interesting question. Miami’s women like to wear very sexy and revealing clothes, which I quite understand due to the climate issue. I think this helps them to be comfortable. My designs are equally dedicated to the sexy women but are less revealing.”
LR: Is it in your future plans to continue featuring your collections in our town?
LA: “Now I find myself doing a couple of negotiations to open my store in this city, which would help to continue presenting my collections here in Miami, as in Puerto Rico and New York.”
LR-After your presentation of December 17, what will your immediate project be?
LA: “This is the last time I present this collection. I will be working on a few editorials for fashion magazines but I’ll be more focused on my next collection that will be the Fall-Winter 2015.
LR- Could you define your work and yourself with just three words?
LA: “Dedication, Effort, and Goals.”
LR- What is the prediction of Luis Antonio for 2015?
Effortless styles like mine!

]]>Much of what set Miami-based Venezuelan designer, Alexis Carballosa, apart from the rest of the fashion designers is that he has always supported the environmental movement, creating awareness through his collections.
This talented designer has always blazed his own trail and demonstrated a fearlessness in trying new styles by making a majestic fusion between his passion for the plastic arts, his love for nature, and his undeniable determination to preserve the environment—resulting in amazing pieces of wearable art!
His work has impacted Europe and South America, leading our designer to win the “Best Styling Award” from Valencia Fashion Week in Spain where he dazzled the audience with his latest “Caoba” Spring-Summer 2015 Collection.
In an exclusive interview for Miami Fashion Spotlight, Carballosa opened the doors of his ateliers to our founder and president, Lissette Rondon, where he talked about his award, his collection, predictions for 2015, and more…check it out!
LR- Tell us how you felt after you won the “Best Styling Award” in Valencia Fashion Week in Spain?
“It was an honor to receive recognition among so many great designers that were at Valencia Fashion Week,” said Carballosa.
LR- Tell us a little about your latest collection “CAOBA” – what was your inspiration for this collection?
“CAOBA, as its name says, is inspired by this exotic and valuable timber species currently threatened due to the high demand and nearly extinct in some countries. The reason that it attracted my attention and why I highlighted in this collection, I wanted to support the green movement,” said Carballosa. “The collection is gathered towards an elegant, sensual, and daring female with dresses of dramatic volumes, architectural draping, and plunging necklines; skirts with tailored waists, suggestive transparencies, and elegant lines.”
LR- Define the concept of the “Carballosa Woman.”
“The ‘Carballosa Woman’ is a woman that is elegant, edgy, sexy, bold, and most important, she is sure of herself,” said Carballosa.
LR- Do you think fashion has evolved in Miami?
“It has evolved only in fashion Resort, because it is a tropical city where there are no seasons,” added Carballosa.
LR- If you had to dress a celebrity who would it be and why?
“I love Cate Blanchett, because she has all the characteristics of a ‘Carballosa Woman.’”
LR- What are your predictions for 2015 in terms of fashion?
“I think that fashion was born in the creative mind of every designer, I do not believe in predefined patterns, everything depends on the countries and their cultures,” said Carballosa.

– Favorite Collection: “CAOBA”

]]>A night of color, creativity, and charm—Agatha Ruiz de la Prada brought her artistic flair to Miami Fashion Week 2014, closing the celebration in unforgettable style. Join us as we revisit this exclusive backstage interview and relive a fashion moment that still inspires today.
By Lissette Rondon
On May 18, 2014, Miami Fashion Week’s 16th Anniversary came to a vibrant close with the unmistakable magic of Spanish designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada. Held at the Miami Beach Convention Center, the finale runway was a burst of bold colors, playful patterns, and signature motifs—including oversized hearts, sailor stripes, and whimsical bows. Some pieces were even hand-painted by Agatha herself, blending her love for fashion and art in a way that only she can.
That unforgettable night, Agatha didn’t just take over the runway—she was crowned with the prestigious Victoria Puig de Lange International Style Award, honoring her global impact on fashion.
As the founder of Miami Fashion Spotlight, I had the privilege of going backstage for an exclusive one-on-one with Agatha, where she opened up about her Miami experience, her creative journey, and her advice to new designers.
LR: How do you feel being back in Miami?
Agatha: “Like a queen! Everyone is treating me so well. I came to Miami 4 or 5 years ago when I won another award, but this time I brought a group of amazing people from Spain and we’re having a blast! Miami is the perfect place for my collection—full of color, architecture, and style. It’s so fashionable here, and now it’s a style that’s being imitated everywhere.”
LR: What did you think of Miami Fashion Week 2014?
Agatha: “I’m good friends with one of the organizers, so I was thrilled to be invited. I think this event is really important for the Spanish and Latin American fashion scene. The opening party had over 1,000 people—it was so exciting!”
LR: Can you give us a sneak peek into your collection?
Agatha: “Some of the fabrics were hand-painted by me! Before I became a fashion designer, I wanted to be a painter. I used to buy fabric and paint it myself. This collection reflects that passion—and the colors really fit Miami’s style.”

LR: Tell us about your foundation.
Agatha: “Three years ago, I celebrated the 30th anniversary of my first fashion show, and I decided it was time to start a fashion foundation. We organized everything—4,000 boxes of slides, photos, documents. It was a huge job! But we also celebrated with a fashion show and an exhibition of my 50 favorite designs at the ‘Correr’ Museum in Venice. That same exhibit went to Lima and Santiago de Chile.”
LR: Any special moments from this year’s MFW?
Agatha: “Yes! I ran into Beth Sobol (the founder of MFW), and she showed me a photo of herself modeling in one of my shows 25 years ago! The collection was called ‘Agatha For President.’ She was wearing one of my wild designs—it brought back such great memories.”
LR: What caught your attention from the exhibitions tonight?
Agatha: “I really loved the vintage uniforms from Eastern Air Lines. They were so elegant!”
LR: How would you describe your personality?
Agatha: “True to myself. Maybe a little misunderstood. When everyone wore black, I was all color. But when you stay true to your vision, people learn to respect it.”
LR: What’s your next destination?
Agatha: “Back to Madrid—I’ve been on a whirlwind lately. I’ll be receiving an award in Valencia.”
LR: What message would you send to emerging designers?
Agatha: “Be patient. So many people are obsessed with success. But success is nothing—it’s just part of the journey. What matters is enjoying each day. If you have fun while you work, life becomes a joy.”

LR-How do you feel about being selected as one of the five finalists?
“This is very exciting! I am loving the whole project,” said Gabeiras. “Love the challenge and at the same time I feel like I am back in college–It is a great opportunity and I am grateful that Eastern Airlines has thought on Miami designers.”
LR- What was the first thing you did when you got the good news?
“I sent a WhatsApp to my entire family. As family, we are all connected there (WhatsApp)—we share everything at the same time and everyone is informed,” added Gabeiras. “They are waiting for the big news!”
LR- Tell us a little about your proposal, how would you dress the new flight attendants?
“My vision is a very contemporary look fused with an athletic and futuristic personality in mind, with class and chic updated to add elegance and luxury but adding a twist of coolness and edgy attitude. Yet, it is also feminine, youthful with a few drops of sexiness, super comfort, functional, practical and a convertible way of styling the uniform pieces around was a must,” said Gabeiras.
LR- What was the inspiration behind your proposal?
“The Matrix and Star Trek movies were my inspirations with a hero feeling of it, because our stewards are heroes, they risk their lives everyday for us and they represent in the air a safe feeling which gives us tranquility while in the air and we must not forget what they stand for!” added Gabeiras.
LR- Could you define your proposal with just one word?
“Future!” said Gabeiras.
LR- The rules of this competition require that each designer propose a futuristic design, tell us a little bit about yours.

“This is all going to be on the judges and who they are. At this moment we don’t know if they are following a criteria or is totally free. But, if I were a judge, I must say: design, composition, product development, fabrication, experience, and focus on your vision,” said Gabeiras.
LR- If you could pick another finalist, beside yourself, to win this competition who would it be and why?
“I have not seen really in detail any of the other projects, even though we have a Press Conference, we couldn’t really focus on that,” added Gabeiras. “Each one has a different approach and they are my friends, and I wish all the best.”

MA: “I feel great in Miami! People here are super friendly and it’s a kind of comfort that I have been missing. I am originally from Mississippi so it’s good to be back.”
LR-Tell us about your experience leading the film “The Ultimate Sacrifice?”
MA: “I think it’s a privilege and an honor to be here that’s why I came from Los Angeles to do this film. It’s a great script and it’s a real story. This film can make a difference. It’s hard to have a life after combat and come back to the normal society. “Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder” is definitely a big issue but there is help.”
LR-Do you have any friend or family that has been diagnostic with PTSD?
MA: “Yes, I do. Most of my friends from high school joined the Armed Forces and some of them went to Iraq and Afghanistan and this affected their lives; like I said before there is help. It’s not a life-ending experience, you can always change. I have been acting and have served in the military, and I want to give a big shout-out to everyone who is serving in the forces because they are all heroes!”

Miami’s Top designer, Viviana Gabeiras just launched a new collection inspired by Kate Middleton at the “Coast Show” in Miami Design District, on August 15th, 2011.
The fabulous ‘Holiday-Cruise Collection’ was inspired by the fashion sense and elegance of the Duchess of Cambridge, featuring pieces that show the transition from Kate, in her latest travels.
The designs range from stunning interchangeable pieces inspired by places and styles, from “Studio 54” in New York to “Saturday Night Fever” in California, moving forward with ready to wear “safari” pieces made with soft and very feminine prints, returning to London with elegant and casual combinations for an afternoon tea.
The talented Venezuelan designer, who resides in Miami, scored another fashion hit with this amazing proposal, adding a royal style to the wardrobe of every woman, redefining it as modern and chic. Perhaps the same message that conveys the Duchess herself!
“I was inspired by Kate, who is a fashion icon with the world’s attention on her. The duchess is dressing in a classic, elegant and sweet style, combining different pieces in different ways at different times. Following her path, we see that Kate is sending a message repeating her pieces and mixing accessories. From seeing her and following in her travels, I felt very inspired to design “
” I took Kate’s fashion sense to my niche “Petit Pois by Viviana G “- which is the adventurous woman who travels a lot and loves fashion with a little influence of Viviana,” said Viviana smiling.

VIVIANA ABOUT THE COLORS OF THE SEASON
“The colors of the season are much stronger in the fall. Towards the end of year we are moving to black and white, grays and fine eclectic art prints. “Animal prints” are still going to be in with tribal influence,” added Viviana. “Gold is still fashionable; I present it in a very classic way, with small accessories.”
VIVIANA ABOUT HER AGELESS CLOTHING LINE!
“My line “Petit Pois” is ageless – today, women have no age and they take fashion on how they feel. The young women take their mothers’ outfits and mothers take their daughters; all these stories make me happy. It is a timeless collection, with no boundaries.”

LR-How did your passion start for fashion design?
AC: “Since I was 8 years old, I remember being wrapped in fabrics and drawing, because my grandmother had an atelier. My parents used to work hard; while they were working I helped my grandmother cut patterns, fabrics and keep the atelier. After many years, I also helped her to embroider, creating a special connection between her and me. Today we still share this passion; I owe my inspiration for fashion design to her”.
LR – Tell us about your beginnings in Venezuela?
AC: “When I started traveling with my parents, I began to learn about other culture that developed my passion for drawing, my parents enrolled me in the school of art and design, because instead of paying attention to my regular school subjects I kept drawing and painting. I started drawing on napkins or any used material that I could paint on. I’m still hold on to all those designs. They are my most precious pieces of art.”

LR – Tell us about your recycled collections that have become a huge success in Miami and South Florida?
AC: “This started since I lived in Venezuela, working with many foundations, such as: Children with Down syndrome, AA… while I was working with them, I also began making additional campaigns about the important of the healthy environment and showcasing my recycled designs at these fund raising events. When I researched the necessity on having a healthy environment I realized the same phenomenon was happening in other countries, which caught my attention; I started designing my collections of recycled materials with more passion.”
“The act of doing something that people consider “unwearable”, a design that people think it can not be worn anywhere, has caused a sensation throughout the world, although I have been criticized for it, while I have been immensely appreciated by others.”
LR-Who are your favorite designers that have been a source of inspiration?
AC: “Galliano, Alexander Mac Queen and Jean Paul Gaultier are my inspiration, but I do not believe in copies.”
LR- Could you define yourself and your work with just three words?
AC: “Sensitive, spiritual, intense.”
“Confidence is the key to make things come your way.”
