The week-long events that combined fashion, culture, art, and sustainability kicked off with a press conference at Miami’s East Hotel (a LEED-certified hotel with a focus on sustainable practices) where designers, fashion experts, celebrities, editors, and influencers were in attendance.

Saying goodbye to this fashion week with an amazing aquarium-panoramic fashion presentation at the Frost Science Museum by Naeem Khan.

The conference was focused on the imminent global recognition of Miami as a fashion capital among New York, Milan, Paris, and London, since being named the second largest fashion week in the United States. Conversations also spanned topics of sustainability in the fashion industry, the evolution of Miami Fashion Week, and the importance of giving back to the community.

Later that evening, festivities began with the international fashion community filling the second level of Saks Fifth Avenue in Brickell City Centre (BCC) for the official MIAFW kick-off party. Stylized looks from each of the twelve designers showing at MIAFW were staged throughout the anchor store on models as chic onlookers enjoyed bites and beverages courtesy of Casa Tua Cucina.

Day two of MIAFW commenced with the debut of Miami Fashion Week Summit, a series running parallel to each day’s runway shows from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus’ auditorium. Hosted by fashion model and entrepreneur Valeria Mazza, the program focused on the fashion industry’s sustainable and ethical issues with top fashion experts Sass Brown, founding Dean of Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation, Javier Goyeneche, founder and president of ECOALF, and Kavita Parmar, founder of The IOU Project.

The dynamic collections included bold, colorful and futuristic clothing, setting the bar high for the next generation of fashion aficionados.

The night concluded with Miami’s very own Rene Ruiz, who debuted his new brand “RENE by RR.” With ethical fashion being such a global topic, Ruiz promoted sustainability by putting a glam spin on casual resort wear with upcycled materials.

Throwback Spotlight: The 5 Iconic Gowns That Stole the Show at Miami Fashion Week (2014)

(Miami Fashion Week Iconic Dresses) Miami Fashion Week 2014 was a year to remember — a showcase of elegance, innovation, and pure fashion magic. That year, five unforgettable gowns turned heads and stole the spotlight — worn by one iconic woman and brought to life by one visionary designer.

Beth Sobol, the former Founder and President of Miami Fashion Week, captivated the red carpet for five consecutive nights, stunning the crowd with a different masterpiece each evening. The creative genius behind these looks? None other than Samy Gicherman, who elevated fashion storytelling to new heights with designs that defined grace and glamour.

In an exclusive 2014 interview with Lissette Rondon, President of Miami Fashion Spotlight, Samy opened up about his creative process, his bond with Beth, and the inspiration behind these now-iconic gowns. A true moment in Miami fashion history worth celebrating once again.

Exclusive Interview with Designer Samy Gicherman

Lissette Rondon: Samy, how did you become the personal designer for Beth Sobol at Miami Fashion Week 2014?
Samy Gicherman: “I’ve known Beth since I arrived in Miami over a decade ago. I began designing for her five years ago. She’s a visionary businesswoman, and designing for her is a rewarding challenge. I understand her elegance, her style, and the way she moves — this year, once again, I had the honor of creating custom gowns for every night at MFW.”

LR: Did you expect your creations to create such a buzz night after night?
SG: “We transformed her look completely each evening. It was a pursuit of excellence, and I’m thankful it resonated so well. Every night ended in success!”

LR: What’s the secret to understanding what your client really wants?
SG: “It’s all about connection, professionalism, and respect. The trust a client gives you is sacred — and you must honor it with dedication.”

LR: What inspired the designs for Beth’s gowns?
SG: “Beth herself. I envisioned her as a luxurious gem. We played with bold colors like magenta and emerald green, sensual white, golden shimmer, and unique prints. Hair, makeup, accessories—every detail mattered.”

LR: Any memorable behind-the-scenes moments?
SG: “Absolutely! On opening night, I mistakenly prepared the white gown instead of the agreed-upon magenta one. Beth called me in a panic! I rushed back to my studio to grab the correct dress and still made it on time for both her fitting and my own Resort collection show. Talk about fashion under pressure!”
