Miami based designer, Candy Woolley, has become renowned for her unique designs of exotic handbags that have been exhibited in art galleries, luxury stores and also used by celebrities such as: Kourtney Kardashian, Patty Manterola and Whitney Port, among others.
Her latest campaign “Be a Candy Girl” has made her handbags fashionable “IN” this season- the clients that own a Candy Woolley bag get a professional photo shoot, modeling their own handbags, making it an unforgettable experience!
Lissette Rondon, Founder of “Miami Fashion Spotlight” visited her workshop in Pembroke Pines, where Woolley talked about her beginnings, latest trends, fashion in Miami and more…
“In 2003, I started a jewelry line and I designed handbags to match; I invited my mother to join me for her experience as a seamstress. We went to a store with our fabric handbags and the owner asked if we could make them in leather, I immediately said yes and I bought the machines,” said Woolley. “Understanding there was an opportunity in leather bags, I began to learn about exotic skins and I designed my first handbags, finding great demand.”
LR-What are the latest trends in your Spring-Summer 2012 collection?
“We are working with stingray and python leather in turquoise and black. My best seller design is the clutch in black with different types of gray in python,” added Woolley.
LR-What do you think about fashion in Miami?
“It is so diversified and that is good for me, because people do not follow any trends,” said Woolley.
LR-Could you define your work and yourself with just three words?
“Passionate, hardworking, unique.”
LR- Could you recommend 3 types of handbags that can be used in Miami all year round?
1-” The Clutch in alligator and python, in colors gray and black, every woman should have one in her closet.
2 – “A tote bag in brown, it is perfect for everyday use.”
3-“A slouchy bag in leather with snake because it is very easy to carry; in colors black, gray or brown.”
Woolley’s exclusive designs have been featured in many fashion magazines in Miami and the US, such as: U.S. Weekly, Miami 944, Univision.com, joonbug.com,and “NotiMujer” on CNN channel.
