After a distinguished career for which he has received multiple honors, such as the “Victoria Puig de Lange Award 2012”, “Ibero Personality of the Year 2012” in Paris and the Medal of Merit by the U.S. Congress – Venezuelan designer, Nicolas Felizola will be honored as “Icon Designer” by the International organization “Miami Fashion Week” at Miami Beach Convention Center on March 20, 2013.
Lissette Rondon, Founder of Miami Fashion Spotlight, caught an exclusive interview with this admired designer where Felizola talked about his awards, new collections, and future presentation in Tokyo.
LR- How does it feel to be honored as “Icon designer?”
“It is a great honor, a challenge and a commitment– I am taking this opportunity to present my collection “MOI 2013,” a collection inspired by the masters Rembrandt and Bernard; artists of the golden age of Dutch painting of the seventeenth century, which highlights a wide range of light-dark and layered fabrics. I chose the “Miami Fashion Week” because it is the night when Miami becomes the world’s capital of fashion.”
LR-Tell us about your bridal collection
“I created “Nicolas Felizola Bridal Collection 2013” because of the overwhelming demand that I’ve had from all the beautiful brides who travel from different places to make their dream of walk down the aisle in a Nicolas Felizola gown come true,” added Felizola. “I’ve designed different types of bridal dresses for different occasions with French and English fabrics embroidered entirely by hand. I highlighted the silhouette of the modern woman as my signature pieces.”
LR- Could you define yourself and your work with just three words?
“Commitment, dedication and perseverance,” said Felizola.
LR – What do you think of fashion in Miami?
“Fashion in Miami is a fashion that identifies a lot with Latin American countries; it is a smooth and colorful fashion. In recent years, European and Asian women are becoming part of this fashion, which is perfect for me… I’m in the perfect city to promote my line,” added Felizola.
LR -If you were on a desert island and you could bring only three important things. What would you bring?
“My book of prayers, food or tools to get the food and a phone with enough power, to call someone to rescue me if I do not like the island,” said Felizola laughing. “But if I like the island, I might stay because I love peaceful places.”
LR– As an “Icon designer” what advice would you give to new emerging designers who are starting their careers?
“I would tell them to have their own identity, believe in themselves, in what fashion is for them and most importantly, do not take into consideration negative episodes that will be detriment to their careers. Negative experiences and negative words should stay forgotten,” said Felizola.
LR- How do you prepare for your next presentation in Tokyo?
“I am very proud to cross borders, getting things ready for this amazing opportunity to present my Couture Collection in Tokyo,” said Felizola.
Miami Fashion Spotlight congratulates this amazing Miami based designer who continues achieving merits across borders, now as an “Icon designer.”
